Moya Cannon was born in Donegal and has lived for many years in Galway.  She has published three collections of poetry, Oar (1990), winner of the inaugural Brendan Behan Award, The Parchment Boat (Gallery, 1997), and Carrying the Songs (Carcanet, 2007), as well as a limited edition art book, Winter Birds (Traffic Street Press, 2005).  Her work-in-progress, Hands, although mainly grounded in native territory, also relates to time spent in Spain, France and Latin America.  A number of her poems have been set to music, and she has worked with traditional Irish musicians, amongst them Kathleen Loughnane and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill, both in the context of performance and of translating Gaelic songs.
