Participants: Trio Verso(Photo: Meredith Eddy)
Trio Verso, Brian Johnstone (poet and reader), Richard Ingham (saxophones, bass clarinet, low whistle) and Louise Major (double bass), is a cross-media collaboration whose work interprets and refocuses ideas behind the 1950s poetry and jazz movement for a 21st century audience, through the fusing of evocative lyric texts with free improvised, jazz-inflected soundscapes. Trio Verso performances are centred on close interaction, the poet exploring different interpretations of the texts in reaction to the sounds created, and the musicians exploiting their technique and their instrumentsí potential in response to the readings.
