StAnza: Afterword 2012

Photo: John Starr

To mark the year of Creative Scotland, in 2012 StAnza went further than ever before, literally stepping out to lots of exciting new venues around town and beyond – MUSA, J & G Innes, the Byre Box, St Andrews Bus Station, the Albany Hotel, Balmungo, the Fairmont and Leuchars Railway Station, as well as through the diversity and expansion of this year’s programme which featured a range of exciting cross-arts collaborations and a special focus on The Image. Our Poem Pedlar was out and about around town and lines of poetry appeared everywhere: via sound installations, in ‘sma buiks’, and on postcards, poem panels, coffee doilies, stone carvings, and even on iced shortbread biscuits, courtesy of Poetry Digest and Stuart’s the Bakers. The Round Table event with Jackie Kay came complete with afternoon tea, proving that at StAnza you could have your cake and eat it.

We had five glorious days of poetry, conversation and celebration, and a lot of sunshine too. We’re delighted to have a whole gallery of photographs to remind us what else was on the menu this year – formal images from events but also intimate moments from around the festival. As a first for this year, we commissioned Daniel Warren to produce a short film, so be sure to check that out, and there are also links to reviews and other online festival coverage. Plus we have a brand new page for podcasts which you’ll find by following the link below. We hope this will allow you to enjoy a second bite at StAnza 2012, or perhaps get a first taste of it, if you didn’t manage this year.
